"Otoczona fosą i drewnianą palisadą warownia, choć powstała w XXI w., nawiązuje do grodów budowanych przez pierwszych polskich władców. Największą atrakcją grodu są repliki średniowiecznych machin oblężniczych – naturalnej wielkości i w dodatku… działające! Wśród nich jest taran, kusza wałowa, hak niszczycielski czy katapulty, w tym olbrzymi trebusz, którego kamienne pociski kruszyły mury twierdz. Można się tu też przebrać za piastowskiego woja i spróbować sił na strzelnicy, rzucając toporem lub strzelając z łuku. W grodzie odbywają się imprezy, pokazy, inscenizacje historyczne i turnieje wojów oraz cykliczny Wiec Piastowski. Organizowane są żywe lekcje historii, okraszone barwnymi opowieściami komesa grodu. Pobiedziska były ważnym punktem na mapie państwa Piastów. Ponoć w tej okolicy książę Kazimierz, nazwany później Odnowicielem, wygrał bitwę z buntownikiem Masławem. Osadzie, która dała początek miastu, nadał nazwę wywodzącą się od słowa pobieda oznaczającego zwycięstwo.",
"Surrounded by a moat and a wooden stockade, even though it was built in the 21st century, the stronghold resembles the fortified towns built by the first rulers of Poland. Pobiedziska Medieval Town's biggest attraction are the replicas of siege weaponry – full-scale and... fully functional! These include a battering ram, a shank crossbow, a destructive grapple and catapults, including a giant trebuchet whose stone bullets shattered the walls of many a fortress. You can also dress up in a Piast warrior costume and try your hand at axe throwing or archery. The borough also hosts various events, demonstrations, historical reenactments and tournaments as well as a recurring Piast Assembly (pol. Wiec Piastowski). There are also live history lessons peppered with colourful tales by the town's commander, a stately count palatine. Pobiedziska was a vital spot in medieval Poland. It is said that it was in these parts that Duke Casimir I, later known as the Restorer, won the battle over the rebel Masław. The settlement which later became the town of Pobiedziska takes its name from the old Slavic word pobieda, meaning victory."

"Niemal wszystkie zabytki Szlaku Piastowskiego można zobaczyć w jednym miejscu! Tyle że w wersji miniaturowej, gdyż zgromadzone tutaj makiety, są dwadzieścia razy mniejsze od oryginalnych budowli. Skansen Miniatur prezentuje m.in. osadę w Biskupinie, katedrę gnieźnieńską, palatium na Ostrowie Lednickim oraz romański kościół w Gieczu. Wśród miniaturowych obiektów znajdują się także inne zabytki ważne dla Wielkopolski, jak poznański Stary Rynek czy pałac w Rogalinie. Większość modeli powstała z aluminium i tworzyw sztucznych, ale do budowy niektórych z nich użyto takich samych materiałów jak w oryginalnych konstrukcjach. Można tu obejrzeć ponadto ekspozycję drewnianych rzeźb postaci związanych z mitologią słowiańską. Skansen organizuje żywe lekcje historii o życiu codziennym pierwszych Piastów, wierzeniach słowiańskich czy ciekawostkach Szlaku Piastowskiego. Atrakcją jest też, odbywający się w sierpniu, Festiwal Legend Puszczy Zielonki.",
"You can see nearly all the sights of the Piast Trail in one place! The catch is... they are in miniature, as all the mockups in the museum are twenty times smaller than the original buildings. The Outdoor Miniature Museum presents, among other things, the settlement in Biskupin, the Gniezno cathedral, the palatium in Ostrów Lednicki and the Romanesque church in Giecz. Among the miniature scale models, there are other important Wielkopolska landmarks such as the Old Market Square in Poznań or the palace in Rogalin. Most of the models are made of aluminium and plastic but for some, the models were made using the same materials as the original buildings. The museum also has Slavic mythology wooden sculpture exhibition. The outdoor museum organises live history lessons about the daily lives of the first Piasts, Slavic beliefs or the curiosities of Piast Trail. The Puszcza Zielonka Legend Festival in August is another noteworthy attraction."

"Wyspa na jeziorze Lednica jest jednym z najważniejszych miejsc w historii Polski. W otoczonym wysokim wałem grodzie rezydowali książę Mieszko I oraz król Bolesław Chrobry. Tego ostatniego w roku 1000 odwiedził tu cesarz Otton III podczas swojej pielgrzymki do grobu św. Wojciecha w Gnieźnie. Znajdują się tu pochodzące z X w. pozostałości\npałacu z kaplicą. Ważną rolę odgrywał także kościół grodowy, stojący na północ od pałacu. W czasach Piastów na wyspę wiodły dwa imponujące mosty, jedne z najdłuższych w ówczesnej Europie. Dziś płynie się na nią promem. Muzeum Pierwszych Piastów na Lednicy propaguje wiedzę o początkach państwa polskiego i życiu codziennym w średniowieczu. Organizuje imprezy plenerowe na wyspie i i na terenie tzw. Małego Skansenu. Cenne przedmioty, znalezione przez archeologów: narzędzia, naczynia liturgiczne, broń, monety, ozdoby, a także liczące tysiąc lat łodzie, można oglądać na wystawach stałych i czasowych.",
"The island on Lake Lednica is one of Poland's most important historical sites. The medieval town was the residence of Duke Mieszko I and King Bolesław the Brave. The latter was visited by Emperor Otto III in the year 1000 during his pilgrimage to the grave of St Adalbert of Prague in Gniezno. There are remains of a palace with a chapel from the 10th century. The town church, located north of the palace, also played an important role. In the Piast era, two impressive bridges led to the island – some of the longest in Europe at the time. Today it is accessible by ferry. The Museum of the First Piasts at Lednica teaches about of the beginnings of Polish statehood and everyday life in the Middle Ages in Poland. It organises outdoor events on the island and in the so-called a small open – air museum. Precious artefacts found by the archaeologists include tools, sacred vessels, weaponry, coins, ornaments as well as thousand year-old boats can all be viewed in the permanent and temporary exhibitions."

"W początkach państwa polskiego gród w Gieczu był – obok Poznania, Gniezna i Lednicy – jednym z najważniejszych ośrodków władzy. Jego budowę rozpoczął ojciec, a może nawet dziad Mieszka I, ale to na przełomie X i XI w. gród przeżywał swoją świetność. Wspomina o nim Gall Anonim, podając stan wojska Bolesława Chrobrego: z Giecza pochodziło 300 pancernych i 2000 tarczowników. Na terenie grodu można zobaczyć fundamenty nieukończonego palatium, czyli reprezentacyjnego pałacu, połączonego z kaplicą oraz fragment północnej ściany kościoła grodowego. Liczne przedmioty wykopane przez archeologów, m.in.: elementy uzbrojenia, monety, ozdoby z brązu i srebra, wyroby z kości i poroża, są eksponowane w pawilonie muzealnym. Obok grodu powstała osada edukacyjna, w której regularnie organizowane są barwne pikniki średniowieczne i lekcje muzealne. Warto też zajrzeć do Giecza w lipcu, by obejrzeć inscenizację wybranych wątków z historii dynastii Piastów, a szczególnie w listopadzie, kiedy przy blasku pochodni odbywają się tu rekonstrukcje dziadów, czyli słowiańskich obrzędów ku czci zmarłych.",
"In the beginnings of Polish statehood, the fortified town in Giecz was – next to Poznań, Gniezno and Lednica – one of the most important centres of power. Its construction was started by the father, or perhaps even the grandfather of Mieszko I, although the turn of the 11th century was the settlement's glory days. It was mentioned by Gallus Anonymous, the authoritative chronicler of this period of Polish history, who told of the state of Bolesław the Brave's army – 300 armoured soldiers and 2000 shield bearers were from Giecz. In the fortified town there are the foundations of an unfinished palatium (a representative palace with a chapel) as well as a fragment of the northern wall of the fort’s church. Numerous objects found by the archaeologists – components of armaments, coins, bronze and silver ornaments, items made of bone and antler – can be seen in the museum pavilion. Near the fortified town there is an educational village where coluorful medieval picnics and museum lessons are organised regularly. Giecz frequently organises numerous events and historical reenactments. Especially worth seeing is one held in November called \"Dziady\" – reenactments of old Slavic rituals in honour of the dead."

"Pochodzący z przełomu XII i XIII w. kościół pod wezwaniem Wniebowzięcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny i św. Mikołaja jest jednym z najstarszych zabytków architektury romańskiej w Polsce. Zarazem jest najmniejszą zachowaną w całości świątynią w tym stylu w Wielkopolsce. Przed wiekami kościół stał w centrum osady, którą łączył z grodem piastowskim szeroki most przez nieistniejące już dziś jezioro. Pierwsza budowla sakralna powstała tu już w XI w., a jej fragmenty można zobaczyć w podziemiach. Współczesny budynek wzniesiono z granitu, choć w narożnikach budowli odnajdziemy także kostki z piaskowca. Nacięcia w nich powstały podczas ostrzenia i polerowania mieczy, co – jak wierzono – miało przynieść szczęście w bitwie. We wnętrzu świątyni zachowały się pozostałości kamiennej mensy – ołtarza. Na uwagę zasługuje XVI – wieczna chrzcielnica z piaskowca i późnogotycka drewniana figura Madonny z Dzieciątkiem.",
"Built between the 12th and 13th centuries, the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Nicholas is one of the oldest Romanesque buildings in Poland. At the same time, the church is the smallest Romanesque church in Wielkopolska preserved in its entirety. Centuries ago, the church was located at the very heart of the settlement, which was connected to the Piast medieval town by a wide bridge over the late that now no longer exists. The first sacral structure appeared here as early as the 11th century, and its remains can be seen underground. Today's structure was built in granite, although in the corners there are still traces of sandstone. The cuts in the corners stem from the sharpening and polishing of swords – a practice believed to bring good luck in battle. Inside the church there are remains of the stone mensa – altar. The 16th-century sandstone baptismal font and the late-Gothic wooden statue of Madonna with Child are particularly noteworthy."

"Gród w Grzybowie był jednym z najważniejszych w państwie pierwszych Piastów. Powstał około 920-930 r. Początkowo niewielki, po rozbudowie za czasów Mieszka I osiągnął powierzchnię aż 4,5 ha! Pozostałości wałów widoczne są do dziś. Mają niemal 9 metrów wysokości, ale kiedyś były jeszcze wyższe. Gród istniał do połowy XI w., potem stracił na znaczeniu. Obecnie jego tajemnice odkrywają archeolodzy, którzy znaleźli tu wiele cennych przedmiotów, np. paciorki ze szkła i bursztynu, grzebienie z poroża, a nawet skarb z arabskimi monetami i srebrnymi ozdobami. Niektóre z tych znalezisk można zobaczyć w pawilonie muzealnym, stylizowanym na bramę do grodu. Rezerwat Archeologiczny Gród w Grzybowie jest oddziałem Muzeum Pierwszych Piastów na Lednicy. Muzeum co roku organizuje Grzybowski Turniej Wojów, podczas którego można cofnąć się w czasie o tysiąc lat, podziwiać zmagania wczesnośredniowiecznych wojowników i poznać życie codzienne w piastowskim grodzie.",
"Gród w Grzybowie (the medieval borough in Grzybowo) was one of the most important settlements during the era of the first Piast dynasty. It was created around 920-930 AD. Initially small, but during the expansion in the reign of Mieszko I of Poland it grew to an area of 4.5 hectares (approx. 11 acres). The remains of the embankments are still visible to this day – they used to be even taller, but today they stand at (an impressive) nine m high. The settlement existed until the mid-ninth century, but its importance declined thereafter. Today, its many secrets are slowly being discovered by archaeologists who have painstakingly excavated many precious objects here, including glass and amber beads, combs made of antlers and even a treasure of Arabic coins and silver ornaments. Some of there finds can be seen in the museum pavilion which has been stylised as a garden gate. The Grzybowo Medieval Town archaeological reserve is a branch of the First Piast Museum (Muzeum Pierwszych Piastów) in Lednica. The museum organises the annual Grzybowo Tournament of Warriors (Grzybowski Turniej Wojów) which allows visitors to experience life as it was a thousand years ago, see reenactments of fights between early medieval warriors as well as learn what everyday life would have been like in the Piast-era settlement."

"Gniezno is the centre of the Piast Trail, the home of the first Polish archdiocese, where five Polish kings were crowned, as well as the oldest sanctuary dedicated to the veneration of St Adalbert of Prague. All this and more is explained in the museum. The exhibition focused on the earliest days of Polish statehood contains a reconstruction of a fragment of the 10th century Gniezno town wall , weaponry of the first Piast warriors, replicas of royal insignia, reliquaries, books, documents, seals, papal bulls, medieval sculptures or Christian sacred vessels. This include an iron knife, almost one thousand years old, which was used to cut bread during mass. In the museum there is also an exhibition of Polish Romanesque art, paintings depicting the Piast dynasty as well as a unique collection of stove tiles and ceramic plates which is recognised worldwide. Temporary and mobile exhibitions are available, as are workshops and live history lessons for school children and students."

"Słynący z hojności wobec kościoła książę piastowski Bolesław Pobożny i jego żona Jolenta w połowie XIII w. sprowadzili do Gniezna zakon franciszkanów. Kościół na Wzgórzu Panieńskim, pod wezwaniem Wniebowzięcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny i św. Antoniego, został konsekrowany w 1279 r. Zbudowano go w stylu wczesnego gotyku, lecz po pożarze z 1513 r. znaczną część odbudowano w stylu barokowym. XVII-wiecznemu obrazowi Madonny z Dzieciątkiem w ołtarzu głównym, wzorowanemu na wizerunku Maryi z bazyliki Santa Maria Maggiore w Rzymie, przypisuje się liczne cuda i uzdrowienia. Zyskał on tytuł Matki Bożej Pocieszenia – Pani Gniezna, a w 1997 r. był koronowany przez papieża Jana Pawła II. Kultem w kościele Franciszkanów otoczone są również relikwie bł. Jolanty, która po śmierci Bolesława Pobożnego wstąpiła do zakonu klarysek. Błogosławiona Jolenta jest patronką Wielkopolski.",
"Well-known for his generosity to the church, Piast Duke Bolesław the Pious and his wife Jolenta brought the Franciscan order to Gniezno in the mid-13th century. The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Anthony on Maiden Hill was consecrated in 1279. It was originally built in the early-Gothic style, but after the fire of 1613 most of it was rebuilt in the Baroque style. Many miracles and healings are attributed to the painting of the Madonna with Child in the main altar, modelled on the image of Madonna in Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. It acquired the name of Our Lady of Consolation – Our Lady of Gniezno and in 1997 was crowned by Pope John Paul II. The relics of Blessed Jolenta, who after the death of her husband, Duke Bolesław the Pious, joined the nuns of the Franciscan Order of Saint Clare are also an venerated in the Franciscan church. To this day, Blessed Jolenta is the patron saint of Wielkopolska."

"Według podań to właśnie w Trzemesznie spoczęło ciało św. Wojciecha po wykupieniu go od Prusów, zanim zostało przeniesione do Gniezna. Przez wieki symboliczny pierwszy grób męczennika był celem pielgrzymek. Obecnie przypomina o nim rzeźba św. Wojciecha w ołtarzu głównym oraz polichromia na suficie nawy głównej przedstawiająca męczeńską śmierć świętego i złożenie jego szczątków w Trzemesznie. Bazylika pod wezwaniem Wniebowzięcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny jest jedną z najpiękniejszych świątyń w Wielkopolsce, określa się ją nawet jako ,,perłę baroku na Szlaku Piastowskim\". Jednak pierwotny kościół, zbudowany przy nieistniejącym już klasztorze, miał formę romańską, a potem gotycką. Jego najstarsze fragmenty – kolumny i część murów – zachowały się do dziś. W czasie II wojny światowej hitlerowcy urządzili tu magazyn, a w 1945 r. spalili świątynię. Po wojnie udało się ją odbudować i zrekonstruować wnętrze. W skarbcu bazyliki przechowywano bezcenne zabytki, w tym kielich św. Wojciecha oraz kielich Dąbrówki. Obecnie znajdują się one w Muzeum Archidiecezjalnym w Gnieźnie.",
"According to legend it was in Trzemeszno that the body of St Adalbert of Prague was buried after his death while on mission to the pagan Old Prussian tribes and before it was moved to Gniezno, his final resting place. For centuries, the symbolic first grave of the martyr was a pilgrimage site. Now, only the statue of St Adalbert in the main altar and the ceiling polychromy depicting his martyrdom and laying his remains to rest in Trzemeszno memorialise his presence there. The Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of Wielkopolska's most beautiful churches, often described as the \"Baroque pearl on the Piast Trail\". However, the original church, built in the place of a former monastery, was Romanesque in form and subsequently Gothic. Its oldest elements – the pillars and parts of the walls – have remained to this day. During World War II, the Nazis made it into a warehouse and in 1945 they burned the church to the ground. After the war, it was rebuilt and the interior reconstructed. In the basilica treasury, priceless artefacts were stored, including the chalice of St Adalbert and the Dąbrówki chalice. They are currently in the Archdiocesan Museum in Gniezno."

"Historia świątyni pod wezwaniem św. Mikołaja sięga połowy XIII w., kiedy to książę Bolesław Pobożny ufundował w tym miejscu kościół. Początkowo zarządzali nim księża diecezjalni, ale w połowie następnego stulecia król Kazimierz Wielki przekazał go zakonowi kanoników laterańskich, którzy sprawowali nad nim pieczę przez kolejne 450 lat. Obecny wygląd świątynia zawdzięcza licznym przebudowom po pożarach. Podczas jednego z nich runęła wieża, odbudowana później w stylu neogotyckim. W prezbiterium zachowało się gotyckie sklepienie gwiaździste, natomiast w nawach późnorenesansowe sklepienie z dekoracją stiukową. Wnętrze zdobią witraże, zabytkowe stalle oraz barokowy ołtarz, w którym do 1973 r. wisiał obraz Zdjęcie z krzyża Petera Paula Rubensa. Niestety, dzieło przypuszczalnie spłonęło w niewyjaśnionych okolicznościach w 1973 r. i zostało zastąpione kopią. Warto też zwrócić uwagę na kaplicę Matki Boskiej Pocieszenia, zwaną kaplicą „Pod Orłami\" lub \"Polską\". Witraże i polichromie o tematyce patriotycznej są autorstwa Włodzimierza Tetmajera, który malowidłami ozdobił m.in. jedną z kaplic na Wawelu. W kościele św. Mikołaja został ochrzczony poeta Adam Asnyk, a pisarka Maria Konopnicka wzięła tu ślub. W 1992 r. świątynia wyniesiona została do godności katedry diecezji kaliskiej.",
"The history of St Nicholas’ Cathedral goes back to the mid-13th century when Duke Bolesław the Pious founded a church there. Initially, it was run by the diocesan priests, but in the middle of the following century king Casimir the Great turned it over to the order of the Canons Regular of the Lateran, who then ran it for another 450 years. The church owes its current appearance to many reconstructions after fires. During one of the fires, a tower fell, and it was later rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style. In the presbytery, a Gothic stellar vault was preserved, and in the aisles, the late-Renaissance ceiling with stucco decoration can be seen. The interior of the cathedral is adorned with stained glass windows, antique stalls and a Baroque altar where Peter Paul Rubens' painting The Descent from the Cross hung until 1973. Unfortunately, in 1973 the masterpiece was reportedly burned in mysterious circumstances and was replaced by a copy. The chapel of Our Lady of Consolation, known as the \"Under the Eagles\" or \"Polish\" chapel is also noteworthy. The patriotic themed stained glass and polychromy are by Włodzimierz Tetmajer, whose other work famously includes one of the chapels in the Wawel castle in Kraków. Polish poet Adam Asnyk was baptised in St Nicholas’ church, and Polish writer Maria Konopnicka was married here. In 1992, the church became a cathedral of the Kalisz diocese."

"Półokrągła ceglana baszta z przełomu XIV i XV w. nazywana jest Dorotką. Zyskała to miano od imienia córki starosty kaliskiego, która według legendy zakochała się w ubogim szewczyku Marcinku. Gdy ojciec odkrył tę potajemną miłość, rozgniewał się i nakazał zamurować Dorotkę żywcem w jednej z baszt. Podanie mówi, że było to właśnie tutaj. O tej i innych legendach, a także o historii miasta z czasów piastowskich, przypomina Centrum Kaliskich Baśni i Legend, które powstało w baszcie. Rzeźba stojąca przed budowlą to właśnie Marcinek czekający na Dorotkę. Baszta Dorotka jest jednym z niewielu zachowanych fragmentów średniowiecznych murów miejskich Kalisza, wzniesionych w połowie XIV stulecia na polecenie Kazimierza Wielkiego. Fortyfikacje okalające miasto miały długość 1,6 km. Baszta ma dwie kondygnacje oraz piwnicę. W jej dolnej części widoczne są okrągłe otwory strzelnicze. Oprócz funkcji obronnych służyła też jako więzienie.",
"The semi-circular brick wall tower from the turn of the 15th century is affectionately referred to as Dorotka (Dorothy). It was named after a Kalisz statesman's daughter who fell in love with a poor shoemaker, Marcinek. When her father discovered their secret affair, he became so angry he had Dorotka bricked up inside one of the wall towers – and according to legend, this was the one. This and many other legends, as well as the Piast period history of the town can be discovered in the Kalisz Fairytale and Legend Center which was established in the tower. The sculpture outside the building depicts Marcinek the shoemaker waiting for his beloved Dorotka. Built in the mid-14th century on the order of Casimir the Great, the Dorotka wall tower is one of the few remaining Medieval town walls in Kalisz. The fortifications around the town were 1.6 km long. The tower has two storeys and a cellar. In its lower part, round blast-holes are still visible to this day. The tower, apart from its defensive function, also served as a prison."

"Opactwo powstawało etapami, począwszy od przełomu XIV i XV w. cystersi przenieśli się w tym czasie do Wągrowca z pobliskiego Łekna, do którego zostali sprowadzeni w połowie XII stulecia przez komesa Zbyluta. Przez wieki kościół i klasztor były niszczone przez pożary lub najeźdźców. W okresie zaboru pruskiego cystersów zmuszono do opuszczenia murów opactwa, a część klasztoru przeznaczono na sąd i więzienie. W 1945 r. budynki zostały spalone, a ich dzisiejszy wygląd to efekt pieczołowitej odbudowy przeprowadzonej po II wojnie światowej. Zrekonstruowano wówczas m.in. ołtarz główny. Cystersi do Wągrowca już nie wrócili, obecnie opactwem opiekują się ojcowie paulini. Z oryginalnego wyposażenia świątyni zachowała się drewniana rzeźba Madonny z Dzieciątkiem z końca XV w., która przetrwała lata okupacji, ponieważ została ukryta i wywieziona do kościoła w Łeknie. Warte uwagi są też pochodzące z katedry gnieźnieńskiej XVIII-wieczne stalle (siedziska dla duchownych), barokowe kropielnice czy tron papieski, lektorium i stół ołtarzowy, przy którym papież Jan Paweł II sprawował mszę świętą w Gnieźnie w 1997 r.",
"The Cistercian monks moved to Wągrowiec from nearby Łekno – their initial seat founded in the mid-12th century by Zbylut, the count palatine. The abbey was built in stages, starting from the turn of the 15th century. Over the centuries, the church and the abbey were regularly destroyed by fires or invasions. During the partitions of Poland, the Cistercians were forced to leave the walls of the abbey, and a part of the monastery was turned into a court and a prison. In 1945, the buildings were burned down. Their condition and appearance today are the result of elaborate restoration work after World War II when reconstruction included the main altar. The Cistercians never returned to Wągrowiec and the abbey is now being run by the Order of St Paul – the Pauline Fathers. Only the late-15th century wooden sculpture of Madonna with Child remains from the church's original fixtures – it survived the occupation thanks to being hidden and later taken to the church in Łekno. Also noteworthy are the 18th century choir stalls – seats for the clergy originally from the cathedral in Gniezno, the Baroque stoups or the papal throne, a rood screen and the altar at which Pope John Paul II celebrated mass in Gniezno in 1997."

Okazuje się, że znakiem drogowym, najstarszym w Europie poza granicami dawnego imperium rzymskiego. Jaką funkcję pełnił, wyjaśnia wyryta na nim wierszowana łacińska inskrypcja, która w tłumaczeniu brzmi: \nRoku od wcielenia Pana naszego 1151. \nO tym, że jest tu środek [drogi] z Kruszwicy do Kalisza, oznajmia ta oto wskazówka drogowego porządku. \nKazał ją tutaj ustawić Piotr, komes palatyn, \nktóry roztropnie przepołowił tę drogę, \naby raczyło nim pamiętać każdy podróżny, \nzwracając się w modlitwie do łaskawego Boga. \nSłup ustawiono w 1151 r. z nakazu Piotra Włostowica, wojewody Bolesława Krzywoustego, by wyznaczał on połowę drogi z Kruszwicy do Kalisza. Kiedyś stał w pobliżu konińskiego zamku, wzniesionego przez Kazimierza Wielkiego. W sąsiedztwo kościoła św. Bartłomieja został przeniesiony w 1828 r. Przyjmuje się, że słup pochodzi z okresu piastowskiego, choć możliwe, że jest znacznie starszy i był obiektem kultu w czasach pogańskich (podobnym do rzeźb z okolic góry Ślęży), a znakiem drogowym stał się w XII w. Wtedy to wyryto na nim cytowaną inskrypcję.",
"Around 2.5 meters tall and made of sandstone, this milestone is one of Konin's most important artefacts. What exactly is it? It seems it is a road marker – the oldest of its kind in Europe outside of the former Roman empire. The Latin poem carved into its surface may give a hint as to what its function was: \nIn the year 1151 since Our Lord's incarnation \nthis righteous path guide hereby states \nthat this is the midway to Kalisz from Kruszwica. \nIt was put here by Piotr, the palace count palatine, \nand thus prudently the journey was halved. \nSo each traveller deigns to remember, \nwhen turning in prayer to the merciful Lord. \nIt was erected in 1151 by the order of Piotr Włostowic, the voivode for Bolesław III Wrymouth, and marks exactly the halfway point on the route from Kalisz to Kruszwica. It used to be located near Konin castle, built by Casimir the Great. It was moved to the area of St Bartholomew church in 1828. It is generally accepted that it stems from the Piast era, although it is possible that it may be much older and was a cult object in pagan times (much like the sculptures around Mount Ślęża), and it only became a road marker in the 12th century. It was then that the inscription quoted above was carved into it."

"Pyzdry za czasów piastowskich były jednym z największych miast w Wielkopolsce – gościły u siebie książąt i królów. Przypomina o tym wystawa w piwnicy domu podcieniowego, nawiązująca do czasów Przemysła II, Władysława Łokietka i Kazimierza Wielkiego. Z tym ostatnim władcą Pyzdry są szczególnie związane. Stał tu przed wiekami zamek, w którym Kazimierz, jeszcze jako książę, schronił się podczas najazdu krzyżackiego w XIV w. Krzyżacy wdarli się do miasta, ale przyszłemu królowi udało się uciec. Podobno wyprowadzono go tunelami (na ich ślad jednak do tej pory nie natrafiono). Wdzięczny za ocalenie Kazimierz, już jako król, odbudował zamek, a miasto otoczył murami. Dziś o gotyckiej warowni przypomina ogromny mural na jednej ze ścian. Pochodzący z XVIII w. dom podcieniowy jest najstarszym budynkiem mieszkalnym w Pyzdrach. Obecnie odbywają się w nim wystawy, spotkania i wykłady. Nazywany bywa także Domem Piekarza, bo przylega do niego część dawnej piekarni, słynącej niegdyś z wyśmienitych drożdżówek, nazywanych w gwarze wielkopolskiej sznekami z glancem.",
"In the Piast era, Pyzdry was one of Wielkopolska's largest towns – hosting many princes and kings. An exhibition in the basement of the old arcaded house recalls those times. It brings back the era of kings Przemysł II, Władysław the Elbow-high and Casimir III the Great and their connection to Pyzdry. Centuries ago, there was a castle in Pyzdry where the young Casimir, as a duke, sought refuge during the invasion of the Teutonic Knights in the 14th century. The Knights stormed the town, but the future king managed to flee. Legend has it he was led out of the town through a system of tunnels – however, sadly no such tunnels, or even traces of them, have ever been found. Casimir, then king, grateful for his rescue, rebuilt the castle and surrounded the town with walls. Today, the giant mural on one of the walls is a reminder of the Gothic fortress. The arcaded house, dating back to the 18th century is the oldest dwelling in Pyzdry. Today, it hosts exhibitions, meetings and lectures. It is also referred to as the Baker's House, as it is next to part of a former bakery which used to be famous for its sweet rolls, called szneka z glancem in the Wielkopolska dialect."

"W rezerwacie Genius loci (po łacinie: duch opiekuńczy danego miejsca) można zobaczyć efekty badań prowadzonych na Ostrowie Tumskim od 1938 r. Obejrzymy tu m.in. oryginalny wykop archeologiczny, a w nim fragment doskonale zachowanej konstrukcji potężnego wału obronnego, który otaczał poznański gród przed tysiącem lat.\nMultimedialne „cacka” w rezerwacie, takie jak video mapping, hologramy i dotykowe „kioski”, służą temu, by w interesujący sposób przybliżyć historię poznańskiego grodu.\nA gród ten powstał na przełomie IX i X wieku. W kolejnych latach był rozbudowywany i stał się jednym z najważniejszych ośrodków w państwie Piastów. Swoją rezydencję miał tu książę Mieszko I – kamienne palatium połączone było z kaplicą ufundowaną prawdopodobnie przez żonę księcia Dobrawę. Na Ostrowie Tumskim powstało też pierwsze na ziemiach polskich biskupstwo oraz zbudowano pierwszą katedrę. Na Zagórzu znajdowało się zaplecze gospodarcze grodu, gdzie mieszkali rzemieślnicy i kupcy. Z kolei na pobliskiej Śródce założono jeden z pierwszych chrześcijańskich cmentarzy.",
"The Genius loci (which in Latin means a given place's caring spirit) reserve offers an opportunity to observe the effects of research carried out on the island of Ostrów Tumski since 1938. Things to see include the actual excavation site with an original fragment of a perfectly preserved structure of a military bulwark, which surrounded the medieval town of Poznań a thousand years ago.\nAll the multimedia gems, such as video-mapping, holograms and interactive self-service kiosks serve to tell the story of the medieval town of Poznań in an interesting way.\nAnd that castle-town itself was built somewhere between the 9th and the 10th century. In the years that followed, it was consequently upgraded, only to become one of the most important towns in the country of the Piast dynasty. It used to be the stately home of Mieszko I – the stone palatium was connected to the chapel, which was probably funded by the prince’s wife, Dobrawa. It was also on Ostrów Tumski where the first Polish diocese was established, and the first Polish cathedral was built. Zagórze served as the economic base of the town, where the craftsmen and the merchants resided. What is more, one the first Christian cemeteries was established in the Śródka neighbourhood."

"Posąg króla Przemysła II w parku im. Ryszarda Kaczorowskiego jest jedną z pięciu rzeźb polskich władców na Trakcie Królewskim w Gnieźnie. \nPrzemysł II był ostatnim przedstawicielem wielkopolskiej linii Piastów. W okresie rozbicia dzielnicowego dążył do zjednoczenia polskich ziem: pod jego zwierzchnictwem znalazła się cała Wielkopolska i Pomorze Gdańskie. Zwieńczeniem tego sukcesu była koronacja na króla Polski, która odbyła się w katedrze gnieźnieńskiej w 1295 r. Uroczystej ceremonii przewodził arcybiskup Jakub Świnka, który wspierał księcia w staraniach o tron. Przemysł II na swojej pieczęci majestatowej po raz pierwszy użył orła piastowskiego jako herbu państwowego. Tragiczna śmierć tego władcy w Rogoźnie (kilka miesięcy po koronacji) stała się inspiracją dla malarzy, np. Jana Matejki czy Wojciecha Gersona.\nNa trasie Traktu Królewskiego oprócz posągów królów znajdują się rzeźby Lecha i Piasta, makiety, tablice informacyjne, a także... 15 figur królików. Te ostatnie nawiązują swoimi strojami i rekwizytami do barwnych postaci, ciekawych zdarzeń i przełomowych momentów w historii Gniezna.",
"The statue of the king Przemysław II, which can be found in Kaczorowski Park, is one of the five statues of the first Polish rulers that can be seen along the Royal Trail in Gniezno. Przemysł II was the last ruler of the Piast dynasty of Greater Poland. During the period of feudal fragmentation, he aspired to unite all Polish lands: he managed to bring both the whole area of Greater Poland and Gdansk Pomerania under his authority. The culmination point of his success was his coronation as King of Poland at Gniezno Cathedral in June 1295. The coronation ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Jakub Świnka, who had supported the prince in his endeavours to gain the throne. Przemysł II was the first Polish ruler to use the Piast Eagle as the coat of arms of the state on his royal seal. His tragic death in Rogoźno (after just a few months after his coronation) has been an inspiration for many painters, such as Jan Matejko or Wojciech Gerson.\nAlong the Royal Trail – apart from the statues of kings, one can also find statues of the legendary Lech and Piast, as well as mock-ups, information boards, or... 15 monuments to rabbits, which allude to some of the extraordinary people, interesting events and ground-breaking moments in the history of Gniezno."

"Underneath the Franciscan monastery on Przemysł Hill, one can discover Poznań in microscale. Multimedia mock-ups of old Poznań that are showcased here are small performances accompanied by the spectacular play of sound and light, including a laser show, as well as surprising special effects.\nThe first mock-up presents the life of people in the medieval town during the time of Bolesław the Brave and his son, Mieszko II, therefore the beginning of the 11th century. And that is exactly when the medieval town of Poznań was the most powerful fortress in Greater Poland. \nThe second mock-up presents the city of Poznań and its surrounding areas exactly how they looked in 1618. Historię kraju i regionu przybliżają dwie wystawy stałe: „Pradzieje Wielkopolski” oraz „Tu powstała Polska” – ta ostatnia przenosi odwiedzających wprost do epoki pierwszych Piastów. Wystawie, na której można zobaczyć wiele cennych średniowiecznych zabytków, towarzyszą odgłosy przyrody, średniowieczna muzyka, filmy i prezentacje multimedialne. \nMuzeum Archeologiczne mieści się w zbudowanym w XVI wieku Pałacu Górków, zamożnego i wpływowego wielkopolskiego rodu. Pałac powstał w wyniku przebudowy kilku sąsiednich gotyckich kamienic. Niektóre elementy konstrukcji są oryginalne: portal z wczesnego renesansu i wewnętrzny dziedziniec z kolumnowym krużgankiem.",
"The Archaeological Museum in Poznań was founded over 160 years ago and takes pride in its exhibits not only from the Greater Poland area, but also from Africa. It is here where one can see the famous obelisk of the pharaoh Ramses II – a monument totally unique in Poland as well as in all of East-Central Europe. Here, people can also admire a genuine Egyptian mummy, or artefacts from Sudan, where museum staff have been conducting archaeological research for years. Its rich collection includes many valuable findings from the Greater Poland area, including the famous oxen of Bytyń, which are believed to have been made in the early Bronze Age.\nMoreover, the history of the country and of this particular region is presented through two permanent exhibitions: “The prehistory of the Greater Poland area” and “It was here that Poland was born”, where the latter takes its viewers back through time, directly into the era of the first Piasts. The exhibition, where one can see many valuable artefacts from the medieval era, is accompanied by the sounds of nature, medieval music, films and digital presentations.\nThe Archaeological Museum is situated in Górka Palace, built in the 16th century by a wealthy and influential Greater Poland family. The palace was created through the redevelopment a few other neighbouring gothic multi-storey houses. Some of its construction components have been preserved in original form and shape: for example, the early Renaissance portal or the interior courtyard with its pillared cloister."

Zmieszany usiadł na schodach przy bramie i złapawszy się za głowę, starał się odkryć przesłanie snu.\nKiedy już wstawał aby wrócić do swojego pokoju, zauważył coś leżącego na jednym ze stopni schodów. Schylił się i... podniósł dwa kogucie pióra."
